Revolvo ReviewMost songs on the album are a great reflection of struggle and angst with a pacifist flavor throughout. This album fits in the same space with the themes of Radiohead.TRACK SUMMARY:
Marmalade is dancy and feels like an original interpretation of hip-hop adapted for a non hip-hop audience. Like much of the album, it has a floaty, etherial sound and does its best job putting the listener at peace. The European roots of this band show in how it presents its surface of sadness atop an abyss of grief.
Moscow Mule is an interesting track that explores inexperienced, almost uncomfortable melancholy. The pining of the chorus asks for peace but demands to be noticed. It's slow and doesn't do a very good job driving home any points aside from inner exploration. The layers of instruments take you someplace far from the music. It has a depth almost completely filled with cymbals and synth behind rythm upon bass upon vocals.
Gold Passion is probably the best song on the album. This track was used in a Ghost Rider stunt trailer. It does probably the best job of any song on the album of taking the listener away and filling the mind with imagery. It's an uncommon sound to hear classical instruments leading the melody for a rock band, but it works in a new and unchallenged way.
GT is an up-beat song filled with angst. This dichotomy makes the song hard to listen to multiple times, but the chorus and melody are cheery enough to make it an easy song to listen to. If you're feeling sappy or confused, this might be your style. That being said it's a far cry from any sense of healing. At the end of the song, the listener is left holding an emmotional bag. Perhaps its left to be accepted and contemplated by the next track.
Shady Lady is the slowest, most melancholy track on the album. It's hard to tell guitar and voice apart as they wander far and deep. If you're not in the mood to turn down the lights and lay down, or look up into the sky, you will probably press next.
Silver Streak is probably the most balanced track on the album. It's got a nice pop sound and honest vocals. All the songs on the album are a bit longer than expected, but this is the first time you won't notice.
White Lady reminds me of The Police. It's faster than most pop songs and isn't afraid to experiement in technical ways. It does a great job integrating a piano that sticks out briefly and keeps up with the style of music.
Strawberry Dawn is both a vocal stretch and a yawn. It's quiet, non-distinct, and ends the album softly. Although it has rise and fall it will be best remembered as a way to put the rest of the album to bed.SUMMARY:
Revolvo has experimented with techno styles as of late, but this album is a good way to get to know the band. It's the sound of a younger rock band using music to explore un-jaded territory. It probably won't be on your top 10, but it's worth visiting once in a while.Revolvo Overview
