State of Things ReviewThe State of Things, by Reverend and the Makers, is a lyrical one two punch to the kidneys. The first to wake you up. The second to clarify your vision so you can really see how it feels to discover that at a certain point in your life - you've lost control over most of it and now it's just you and the "MAN" wrestling for what little real life you have left.
From the title track and the early knowledge of hard truth imparted on the "State of Things", to the salacious viewings of "What the Milkman Saw" and the painful knowledge that we could have been "Heavyweight Champions of The World". We are presented with a numbing list of might have beens, and ought to have beens, each one walked down that long dark alley of reality and ganged up on by a bunch of brutal facts.
But, underneath it all you feel the rhythmic drum and base stumble of youth tugging at your hand and telling you to take a chance, shake off the dust and shamble Rasta tumble half step knees high head back rumble in to the dance and live again! Sweet melodious retribution on the State of Things that declines to let any one live their own lives, but demands that they can only live through someone or something else.
Everybody get up and dance your own dance!
