Holding on for Brighter Days ReviewIf you are interested in the amazing late-night activities taking place around the world, and wonder what kind of new experiences there are to be had, allow your ears to fall prey to the majesty of this cutting-edge hybrid of trip-hop, pop, rock and experimental ambient known simply as '27.'
A schoolyard of strings, both plucked & strung frolic with warm and floating electronics mixed seamlessly with analog rock instruments, which collectively are given life by the delicately fierce vocal stylings of Maria Christopher and driven in time by (sister) Terri Christopher on drums.
Notes shine brightly like sunrays on the listener during "Closer To You", while hip-hop turntabilism, subtle funk sampling and Maria's soulful vocals form this progressive rock Pantheon (*Note: Roman Pantheon was created in 27 B.C.) which can be found (at times) in groups like UNKLE, DJ Shadow and DJ Krush (Japan).
Darker, crunchier sounds are reached on "The Downfall Of The Upright," which brings it's inherently rockin' groove together with the beautifully-scented sound of Maria's voice to form a song that is `dirty' in all of the right ways!
Finishing out the album, we are treated to the 8+ minute perfection of sound that 27 have named "Sorrow's Crown."
